Industrial Chemical Process and Transfer Pumps

Chemical Pump Categories

Horizontal Chemical Process Pumps

The CZ series is the published horizontal chemical process pump in the current range. Its product page specifies a horizontal back-pull-out structure with the pump and motor connected by a coupling on a common baseplate.

The IHF is the fluoroplastic-alloy product in the current chemical-pump category. Fluoroplastic construction is used where the complete wetted material is compatible with the specified chemical.

The product data for an IHF enquiry includes:

  • Casing backing material

The individual stainless steel grade is displayed at product level. The terms “stainless steel,” “304,” “316L” and “duplex stainless steel” are not treated as interchangeable because they have different chemical and chloride resistance.

Mixed-Flow and Forced-Circulation Pumps

The SPP is the mixed-flow forced-circulation pump in the current range. The CP is identified as a stainless steel food-grade mixed-flow pump.

Mixed-flow and forced-circulation duties are kept separate from standard centrifugal-transfer-pump duties. Their pages contain the model-specific circulation flow, head, connection, motor and material information.

High-Pressure Plunger Pump

The CXHP is an axial high-pressure plunger pump. It is not presented as a centrifugal chemical pump.

The product page defines its pressure, flow, drive, seal and liquid requirements independently from the centrifugal and mixed-flow series.

Chemical-pump material selection is based on the full wetted-material list rather than the casing name alone.

How a Chemical Process Pump Works

A chemical process pump transfers energy from the motor to the pumped liquid through an impeller or another displacement mechanism.

In a centrifugal process pump, liquid enters the impeller near the shaft axis. The rotating impeller increases liquid velocity, and the casing converts part of that velocity into pressure before the liquid reaches the discharge connection.

In a plunger pump, the reciprocating displacement of the plunger creates suction and discharge cycles. This construction provides a different relationship between flow and pressure from a centrifugal pump.

Mixed-flow pumps generate flow through a combination of radial and axial hydraulic forces and are used for high-circulation duties with comparatively lower developed head.

Every chemical-pump quotation is based on:

  • Required flow rate in m³/h

  • Required total head in metres

  • Suction pressure

  • Discharge pressure

  • Operating and maximum pressure

  • Chemical name

  • Chemical concentration

  • Viscosity

  • Vapour pressure

The published CZ series uses a mechanical seal or packing seal. The ZA/ZE/ZAO manual specifies packing, single mechanical seal and double mechanical seal arrangements, together with cooling, flushing or sealing-liquid connections.
